Flaming lips where is my mind

Steve Hoffman Music Forums. Location: canada. I'm far from being a Pixie expert but I just wanted to ask your opinion on something I only recently discovered that this song is from the late eighties I had it pegged as a 90's song for sure I've been trying to remember what music sounded like in the late 80's and from what I recall it was nothing like this is it fair to say this song was light years ahead of its time?

Location: Atlanta, Georgia. I am always blown away when listening to the Pixies. Maybe not light years ahead, but they were definetly ahead of the curve on that new sound and feel that, to me, says '90s. The only other band that I can think of that sounded ahead of the times was Jane's Addiction. Location: Oakland, California.

IMO The Pixies were a huge influence on todays music. Love my Pixies vinyl At the end of some of the songs there are these little pieces for cello and wah-wah guitar or something — this strange, krautrock, heavy song.

And at the end it goes off on these little tangents. No one else is going to do that. Why would anybody else want to do that? But we got away with it.

Taking the deepest, darkest elements of Embryonic as a starting point, The Terror was a perfectly named descent into existential dread. He knew that we were liking this one little synthesiser — a little plastic one called the Wasp. Some synthesisers, especially the old ones, just have a fucked-up power in their circuitry and stuff, and you get this other vibe — Steve and I became obsessed with that. And this was a time when Steven was struggling with one element of being sober, and he was just pouring himself into making these recordings.

Some of them would be quite insane, screaming-at-the-void songs accompanied by this kind of clung, clung, clung — this synthesiser of despair. It did feel like what he was going through just to be normal. And when we finally made it, it was a great relief. But we really are from here. The way Steven and I were approaching it, it really was a horrible moment.

We wanted to be our brothers. And our brothers killed themselves with drugs and all that. In , The Flaming Lips embarked on a series of increasingly outlandish releases, from edible foetuses to human skulls, that set the bar for self-pressed collectables.

Not long enough? Try the hour song, 7 Skies H3. Things that would take forever, label-to-label, I made deals with all these people. One time. Some of it was ridiculous music. Side One plays at 33 rpm, Side Two at 45rpm. A foetus. That you have to eat. With music inside. Atlas Eets Christmas No physical release atlaseetschristmas.

Quite literally head music. In a record. Or how many were pressed. Proceeds went to charity, blood donors went straight to the hospital. It was down to the other guys in the band. Perfectly agreeable. I have nothing but happy memories of it,. We have written our songs about you. Happy people, sad people, lovely people, and a few confused people. We have written of the children, of the k…. The passing of Paul Buckmaster last November left me in a blue mood. Had he ever been interviewed?
